Perserverance

A great Japanese proverb for the new year, from the amazing Scott Jurek:

“Stumble seven times, get up eight times.” This is the Japanese proverb, 七転び八起き, nanakorobi yaoki. Perseverance over defeat.

It’s time to pick a new challenge. Will faster times be enough for me for 2008?

Nice saying. Good theme for the new year. I don’t know about faster, and longer is a problem because of the time it takes to train. You could borrow a baby and do a stroller marathon. Nah, faster is probably the key. Just remember that you are hitting the exponential part of the curve and all. Danged 3 hour stuff isn’t nearly as easy to improve on as my 5, almost 6 hour one. :-D

In 2008 I definitely can’t expect to see the same sort of time improvements I saw in 2007. I’ll leave the stroller racing to real daddies out there (HINT HINT), but I do need to get creative with my goals going forward.

Congrats on finishing that first marathon! I’m looking forward to meeting up with you Smithmiers for a race in the future.
